This service is a combination of thorough cleaning, use of the pressure washer on non slip surfaces (not teak) cleaning of teak to remove the grey and green use of teak brightener to restore the original colour and seal the surface, shampoo and wash off to remove bird strikes fallout from snow and rain including the hull, cleaning all the external lockers, windows and stainless. This process is very popular after the winter and when a vessel has been left for a long period of time, this remedial process can be carried out in or out of the water.

Contrary to some beliefs cutting back the surface means “scraping away all the gel coat surface” gel coats very in thickness but most will withstand many years of compounding without going anywhere near the mat composite.
The reason why surfaces have to be cut back with a compound polish is quite simply the UV has removed the top surface and left it porous and unable to sustain a wax polish finish only. By removing the porous chalky surfaces it is then prepared for the addition of a wax polish leaving it both shiny and sealed.

Teak “thick or thin” is still prone to the greying and green discolouration if left over a period of time.
Marine Clean offers a cleaning service which includes soaking and gently scrubbing the surface to remove all the dirt and the grey and green residue. This is then succeeded by the use of a teak brightener which then restores the colour and also seals the surface. Many people have different ideas on how teak should look – the choice is yours between gold and the washed white look. One should also note that if you teak oil your surfaces this virtually has rendered it impossible to clean and brighten it and very often leaves a dark to black surface.

Covers also suffer from the ingress of dirt and also the green mould – a hot steam clean and soak will remove these, overall and cockpit covers should also be re proofed after cleaning to prevent water ingress.

Boat carpets probably experience far more wear than in some houses – quite often grit, mud is trodden on board sometimes grease and often spillage from food and drinks. Marine Clean offers a full upholstery and carpet cleaning service either on board or within our [premises by use of a damp process or dry foam cleaning. We can accommodate woven, leather and suede surfaces and would also recommend our “scotch guard” treatment especially on new boats – this effectively seals the surfaces and makes the removal of spillages that much simpler.

Marine Clean over its career has been involved with rust removal from GRP surfaces. From our experience rust contamination is caused by a third party working on cutting or grinding metal within a close proximity – the hot sparks are then carried onto the surface and quite often imbed into the surface. This then causes rust bleeding.
We specialise in the removal of such particles and the restoration of the surfaces. Because of the complexities that can be experienced we can only recommend a process upon evaluation of the surface at the time.

Fire and smoke damage today fortunately is far less a hazard that it used to be due to more sophisticated early warning and fire systems installed on board at the time of manufacture. It is also lessened by the fact that the diesel engine has taken over much of the leisure marine market reducing further the treat of explosion.
However electrical failures and more common are the fracturing of the engine exhaust into the engine room creating a huge amount of smoke coupled with the fire extinguisher system being released.
Marine Clean has the necessary cleaning and extraction equipment to carry out the complete cleaning process.

The most likely occurrence of the bilges being filled with a substance is either from sinking in which case can involve not only seawater, oils, battery acids etc but also escaping hydraulic fluids from a burst hose or suchlike under pressure.
Marine Clean would hot steam clean all such areas with a degreaser then extract all fluids and dry accessible areas.

The western world has been made more aware of various diseases that can affect us – highlighter by the publicised reports of such within hospitals. These same or similar “bugs” could also be on board your boat especially on older vessels and ones that have travelled to topical areas. The main areas that could be affected are bedding, the galley and heads areas compounded quite often by dampness, lack of cleaning and lack of ventilation Marine Clean has considerable experience with the use of such deep cleaning products to help prevent the presence of MRSA and suchlike.
